Sometimes, the urge to have Asian food with a difference strikes, and nothing satisfies until you get it. When that happens, count on the restaurant COi by Vichalya to point you in the direction of Colombo’s best Asian fusion restaurant. Local professionals flock to this upscale eatery that serves up dishes that are fresh, flavorful and value for money.
Unbeknownst to some non-foodies, Asian fare is so much more than just sushi and fried rice. It‘s an eclectic collection of dishes from cultures as complex and varied as its people. You can find several different kinds of Asian fare in the menu available at COi by Vichalya.
Located at the 4th floor of the Clique building the restaurant is becoming one of the favourites amongst the locals. Rich with flavour the portions are generous. Whatever you’re in the mood for, COi by Vichalya can feed your curiosity and appetite.
The restaurant not only whips together moist and creative sushi rolls, this top – notch kitchen produces an amazing menu that keeps you guessing. From the creative starters try the Banana Blossom Salad with Spicy Beef – Rs. 645/=, Thai Spicy Extra Crispy Sardinella Salad – Rs.675/= or Glazed Pork Salad, Lychee, Green Apple with Chilli Chocolate Reduction – Rs.880/=.
The Kani Nabe Crab Hot Pot and the Green Tea and Pickled Guava Curry Paste with Salmon in Banana Leaf are the two promising mains and are my personal favourites!
The Pandan Cheese Cake with Treacle (Rs.875/=) highlights the final course. They do have a few more desserts that are unique to its own like the Ginger and Wasabi Souffle and the Matcha & Chocolate Bar with Matcha Soil & Red Bean Mousse (Rs.985/=). The food is high quality and their portions are generous. This is a great place to go with a group.
As for the interior you can sum it up as – creative, artistic and beautiful! And the service is on point. As for the drinks well I do think they can do a bit better with the cocktails that’s the only downfall.
In conclusion, COi by Vichalya is a hidden gem devoted to Asian fusion food with inventive twists that you wouldn’t expect but will most certainly enjoy. The food was amazing, the setting sublime and the ambience charming and in fact, all 3 times we visited the restaurant, everything went quite well. They are also open for lunch between 11.30 am – 3.00 pm for those who wish to have a quick lunch.
Tip: Some of the portions can be shared so order different dishes. But mostly don’t expect anything out of the ordinary because COi by Vichalya is sure to surprise you with the unexpected.
